Three-stage system with descaler — filtration and scale protection together. This is what we recommend for most Houston homes.
Filtration on its own is $2,595. Adding the descaler at the same install is $400 — less than doing it later, because the plumber is already on site.
Both prices are the standard install on a 1" PVC line by a licensed master plumber, with a one-year warranty on parts and labor, insulation for freezing weather, and a bypass so servicing never shuts off your water.

If hard-water buildup is what's bothering you — spots on the glass, a crust on the fixtures, appliances wearing out early — you want the descaler. If it's the smell in the shower or dry skin, filtration alone solves it.
Why the descaler can't go in alone. A descaler only works with a filter ahead of it — without one it clogs. You'll see standalone descalers advertised elsewhere; that's why we don't sell them that way. It's an addition to the filtration system, not a replacement for it.
